Christelle Oyiri
Christelle Oyiri is a Paris-based artist whose work weaves together music, moving image, performance and sculpture into speculative cartographies of identity and power. Also known under her music alias CRYSTALLMESS, she mobilises the languages of subculture to interrogate fractured temporalities, collective memory, and the psychic aftershocks of displacement and obliteration. Influenced by French theory of Jean Baudrillard, Georges Bataille and Michel Foucault, Oyiri creates environments that blur the boundaries between the sacred and the synthetic, the intimate and the systemic.
Her work has been shown at Amant, New York; Zachęta, Warsaw; Centre Pompidou, Paris; Lafayette Anticipations, Paris; Tramway, Glasgow; Gathering, London; Auto Italia, London; Gladstone Gallery, New York; LAND, Los Angeles; Museum für Moderne Kunst, Frankfurt; LAS Art Foundation, Berlin; and Galerie Buchholz, Berlin, among others. Her installation PERPETUAL REMIX premiered at Tate Modern in June 2025 as an expansive meditation on the idea of remix as a form of survival and myth making. In May 2025, Oyiri was invited by Arthur Jafa to share her readings, time-based image and music as a part of the exhibition ‘Corps et âmes’ at the Bourse de Commerce, Paris.
