Gathering is thrilled to announce an upcoming solo presentation of recent work by Linnea Skoglösa for this year’s edition of Art Brussels. The booth will be Skoglösa’s second presentation with Gathering following her exhibition at Glasshouse last year, HYPER FLESH.

Skoglösa will be showcasing a series of paintings that expand upon her ongoing investigations into the compulsive pursuit of self-optimisation at the core of technology-driven consumer culture. Through compulsive marks and scratched away layers as well as an uncanny, lit-from-within glow, Skoglösa’s paintings obliquely refract the effects of algorithmically defined ideals of capital.

Two sculptures reinforce the messaging of the paintings: EXERCISM, made of marble, reformer machine, hybrid travel pillow, ergonomic handles and DFD, made from inceptor frame, waterproof car seat cover, swing arm rear, hair, aquarium, wooden frame. Skoglösa’s practice employs such everyday objects such as wellness products, industrial hardware and screens, which she deconstructs and recontextualises to create new orders. The work invites viewers to question the fatigue and accelerated emotional state caused by endless feedback loops and wellness culture online.
