Gathering is pleased to announce our participation in the inaugural edition of Esther, New York with works by joint Turner-prize winner Tai Shani.

Shani’s spiritual and cosmological works will be displayed in the historical Estonian House in New York, in line with Ester’s alternative model for gallery collaboration beyond the traditional art fair.

Central to the show is Shani’s candlestick, Haunted by a Million Suns II, spanning close to three meters in height. With a glowing flame and cartoon-like drips, the sculpture is a vivid motif of various symbolic meanings. Paired with Shani’s oil and acrylic on plywood: Our Astrolatrous Communes IV, the New York installation invokes thematic elements of Shani’s practice - the occult, mythology, time, feminist theory and science fiction to create a fantastical utopian world at once unsettling and beautiful.
